Who is Dr. Meriwether
Dr. Chad Meriwether, Chiropractor
Dr. Chad Meriwether was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from the University of North Texas with a B.S. in Biology and minor in Chemistry in 1991. Dr. Meriwether earned his doctorate in Chiropractic in 1996 from Parker College of Chiropractic in Dallas, Texas. He has been in continuous practice for over 25 years. Early in his career Dr. Meriwether found that he was passionate about resolving patient’s pain as quickly as possible and not subjecting them to endless “maintenance” treatments. He began looking at the body through biomechanics or how the body moves rather than just static, structural based anatomy. This approach results in increased function, decrease in pain and better movement patterns going forward to prevent future injuries. Most patients see significant relief after just one treatment and full recovery in two to four treatments thereby decreasing time and money spent by the patient.
Upon opening Meriwether’s Maximum Therapy, a chiropractic office in Aledo, Texas, Dr. Meriwether has the goal of providing a very focused, simple service in the treatment of sports injuries, acute and chronic musculoskeletal pain and hard to treat cases that other practitioners have given up on. One of Dr. Meriwether’s passions is actually taking the time to educate the patient about the purpose of treatment and their body and how he and the patient together can resolve their issue very quickly. Increasingly, many practitioners are not detecting the cause of the patient’s issue and trying multiple therapies just hoping that something works. This should be a red flag to the patient and will not happen with Dr. Meriwether. He will perform a detailed exam, assessment and treatment that is innovative, outcomes based and convenient.
Dr. Meriwether has been married to his wife, Shannon, for 30 years and has two daughters. He and his family have lived in Parker County for several years. He enjoys spending time with his family cooking and playing cards, board games and Wii along with hiking. He loves a good book and enjoys collecting comic books.
Our Services
Examination
Dr. Meriwether will provide a very thorough assessment of your condition or injury.
It starts with getting to know you and your current condition. Some questions we might ask are:
• What is your activity level?
• What are your daily habits?
• Are you a long distance runner, a fitness buff or do you love yoga?
Then a physical exam which consists of neurological tests, strength tests, functional tests and orthapedic tests is preformed.
The more information gathered from these will give Dr. Meriwether a better diagnosis and the more thorough and accurate the treatment process will be.
MANUAL THERAPY
It is more realistic that every connective tissue in the painful area is in a state of dysfunction rather than limiting the diagnosis to one thing, such as “that ligament” or “that muscle.” The connective tissue is intimately connected from skin to bone.
From an evidenced based perspective, it can’t be just one thing.
In order to get the best possible outcomes it is imperative to mobilize any soft tissue abnormality that is limiting the range of motion and function of that area first.
Soft tissue abnormalities can include sprains, strains, pulls, twists, or just generalized tightness.
The manual therapy is a fairly aggressive, results guided treatment to restore the mobility and function
of the area.
Physical Rehabilitation
A healthy functioning body is determined by the following traits: range of motion, strength, speed, power, and stamina.
Achieving range of motion is by far the most important as without it you CANNOT optimize strength, speed, power, stamina.
However, once range of motion has been addressed, your surrounding connective tissues need to be re-educated in order to improve the other traits of functionality. Without this step there is little hope for a positive and immediate outcome.
Our bodies are made of trillions of cells. All of our cells react to stimuli. If we ask our tissues and bodies to do something, they will react and adapt to that type of stimulus. If we do not ask them to do anything, our tissues will not do anything. This is the premise of Physical Rehabilitation. We have to ask our body to do things under controlled settings.
Dr. Meriwether’’s Physical Rehab recommendations will include getting you back to your normal activity level whether it is CrossFit or just normal daily activities. Most often, REST IS NOT A GOOD RECOMMENDATION. As long as the activity is carefully monitored and controlled, the risk of the additional injury is very low.
Chiropractic Adjustments
As we move throughout our lives the physical stresses that we place on our bodies will begin to restrict joint range of motion. Typically, this loss of range of motion is very subtle and is not noticeable to the patient over a long time period due to previous stresses.
We are starting to see younger and younger patients with early onset degenerative arthritis due to this loss and old injuries never diagnosed the proper way. It’s the use it or lose it phenomenon. Joint soft tissue is avascular. So, if joints cannot move through their full range of motion, the get weak and degenerate.
A chiropractic adjustment followed by active and passive joint range of motion therapies is by far the most proactive treatment to increase or maintain joint range of motion and health. This will significantly delay the inevitable degenerative arthritis in our much later years.
There are several types of chiropractic adjustments. Dr. Meriwether will find which one is best for your. In many conditions, the adjustment is not warranted until the soft connective tissue is unrestricted.
Kinesiology Taping
Kinesiology tape has become increasingly popular over the past decade or so. At one time, it was misunderstood. Now, it has become a standard of care, but it must be applied by a knowledgeable practitioner.
All of the connective tissues in the body are called connective tissues because everything is physically adhered to each other.
Kinesiotape acts as an additional layer of connective tissue as it adheres to the skin. It adds an additional supportive layer without compromising range of motion, and improves blood flow and lymphatic drainage to the affected area.
